Captain Underpants | Calgary Family Photographer

I’m pretty behind on editing pictures of my own family this year.  Having photos done by the super talented Rob + Lauren took the pressure off of me to keep on top of my own images of them.  So although I haven’t yet looked at the photos I took at his birthday 3 months ago I couldn’t help but share these images from the other day.

Epic, or Coco Bear as we call him is a different little guy.  He’s stubborn and quirky with a crazy amount of charm and just enough OCD to drive me bat shit crazy.  There isn’t a person in his life that hasn’t at one point or another told me “he is the cutest kid I have ever met” and although I’m biased it’s totally true.  Although he is a heart breaker at the age of three you ladies may have to look past a couple of things.  He only knows his colours by superheroes i.e.. the grass is not green, it’s “Green Lantern”  black is “Venom” and of course red is “Spiderman”.  Mix all that crazy in with a severe speech and language delay and BAM! my little Coco Bear.  Because of all of this he’s still working on the concept of toileting.  After working on the whole concept with him and his team of peeps for the last 3 months we FINALLY got him to pee on the toilet… just once… by accident… I’ll take it! The result being that he got to wear big boy undies just like Spiderman… yep I totally tell him he has the same pieces of fabric gracing his butt as The Amazing One himself.  Whatever works right!

Anyways, he was effing pumped about said undies.  See…

Unfortunately not pumped enough to avoid peeing in them 30 minutes later!  Consider these photos as payback one day Epic:)

It’s Not You it’s Me | Tuesday Tunes

Boom! I’m back at it again! This is me promising to be a little less lame over the winter.

If you’ve had a session with me over the last few months and you’ve  been secretly questioning our friendship and my love for you because I haven’t blogged it yet let me emphatically announce that IT’S NOT YOU IT’S ME!  Seriously I am into you! I promise.  Life just has a way of kicking my ass that’s all.  So keep an eye on me I promise I’ll deliver!  In the mean time let’s get the party started again with Tuesday Tunes!

Ed Sheeran,  I love him, I can’t even help myself.  His ginger hair, his scraggly beard (I’ve got a thing for a good beard) and his freckly arms.  Besides the beard he’s not normally my type but seriously I can’t get enough.  This here video happens to be one of my favourites ever.  Yes, he isn’t in the video much, and there’s not a TON going on but what is going on is pretty damn awesome.

Check it out…

I’ve been pretty MIA on the blog lately.  It’s kind of lame really BUT I promise I’ve got a good, neh… GREAT excuse.  I’ve been uber busy taking photos, being awesome and providing super swell memories for really rad families!  That’s not all though I’ve also been combining my rad family capturing skills will my rad commercial photography skills for both the Calgary Children’s Festival and The Ronald McDonald House.

Personal | Calgary Portrait Photographer

I love photography.  I love that an image can be both art and a memory.  I love the sound of the shutter moving quickly to allowing my camera to capture the light, love and memories of a family, a couple or friends all in 1/200th of a second. Although photography is part of me, it hasn’t always been.  I’m not one of those photographers born with their great grandfathers camera in their tiny little hands.  There are no pictures of my mother’s womb floating around.  No one bronzed my first roll of 35mm film.

I didn’t get my first camera until close to 9 years ago while on my honeymoon, or my first DSLR until 5+ years ago when I was pregnant with little Danger. When I realized what I could do with my new DSLR I fell in love.

I tell you all of that because I’ve always wanted to try my hand at film.  I have a few friends that rock it old school shooting crazy old cameras and film stored in their fridge. When one of those besties Sarah invited me to come along and shoot some Fuji Pro 400H I couldn’t hold back my excitement.

Here’s what we came up with.

Turns out now I’ve caught the  ”bug” and am currently searching out the perfect kit.  I can’t wait to get at it again. Thanks to the super swell Sarah Vaughan not only for taking me out to shoot this jazz but also for taking some fun pics of me.  You’s swell!

Great post! Have you had the opportunity to develop film in a darkroom yet? I grew up with a darkroom in my house and had the opportunity to develop my own photos in black and white growing up. (Perk of having a photographer for a dad!). Anyway… If you haven’t tried it yet, you gotta!!!
